Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any prior experience to start flight training?

No experience is necessary. Most students begin with a Discovery Flight to get a feel for  flying before starting lessons.

How long does it take to get a Private Pilot License (PPL)?

On average, students take 6–12 months depending on how often they fly. Training time  varies — the more frequently you schedule lessons, the faster you’ll progress.

How much does flight training cost?

Costs vary based on your pace and the type of aircraft you train in. Instruction is $65/hour,  and aircraft rental is charged separately by the hour. We’ll provide a training plan and  estimate tailored to you.

What is the minimum age to start flight training?

You can start lessons at any age, but you must be 16 to solo and 17 to earn your Private  Pilot License.

Do I need a medical certificate to fly?

Yes, to earn a Private Pilot License you’ll need at least a Third-Class FAA Medical  Certificate, which you can get from an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME).

How often should I schedule lessons?

Most students benefit from flying 2–3 times per week. Training less often is fine, but it may  take longer to build skills and finish.

What happens on my first lesson?

Your instructor will cover some basics on the ground, walk you through a preflight  inspection, then you’ll head to the sky — and yes, you’ll get to take the controls on day one!

Can I bring a friend or family member on a lesson?

For safety and training focus, most lessons are one-on-one with your instructor. However,  Discovery Flights can sometimes accommodate a passenger — ask us when scheduling.

Is flight training safe?

Yes. Safety is always our top priority. We follow strict FAA guidelines and keep our aircraft  regularly maintained.
